On The Job Training (Week 2)
Second Week
Day 5 (February 11, 2025)
On Day 5 of this week, we continued digitizing progress report documents provided by our mentor. In the afternoon, we had a discussion with Ma’am Llovido regarding the plans and necessary steps to initiate and complete our mentorship plan. We also addressed concerns about the current system development that we will be supporting.
Day 6 (February 12, 2025)
On the sixth day, our focus was mainly on scanning documents and consulting the previous batch regarding the system’s progress. We also had a discussion with Ma’am Joy about the possibility of refactoring the system. While she acknowledged that it was feasible, the looming deadline posed a significant challenge. To gain more insight, we reached out to the former OJT students, and they told the same concern. Refactoring would require them to relearn the entire codebase while still racing against time to complete the project. Given these circumstance, we ultimately decided to work with the existing system rather than rebuild it from the ground up. With this in mind, our immediate priority is to enhance the Monitoring section and improve Reports Generation, as highlighted during our discussions. It won’t be easy to build upon the current structure, but we are determined to push through and complete the task efficiently.
Day 7 (February 13, 2025)
We are continuing the digitization of RDE documents while also having a brief meeting with our mentor. During the discussion, she suggested that instead of refactoring the existing system, we should develop a new project that remains connected to the system built by our senior CS programmer. One CS student was present and agreed with the proposed plan moving forward.
Day 8 (February 14, 2025)
On the eighth day, our routine document scanning continued as usual. However, today was different because our mentors, along with a former OJT student, visited the office to discuss system development. Instead of modifying the existing system, we decided to create a separate website that would feature news and provide links to the current system. This new site will have its own database while still retrieving research data from the existing one for report generation. This approach seems beneficial for both us and the previous OJT students, as their system uses a different code structure that they are more familiar with. Starting a new project from scratch feels like a more practical and efficient direction.
