On The Job Training (Week 12)

Week 12 marked a significant milestone in our OJT journey—the successful conduct of the CMS Workshop. This event was the culmination of our team’s hard work, collaboration, and dedication to building a functional and user-friendly content management system. During the workshop, we trained staff members on how to navigate and use the CMS effectively. We walked them through the key features of the system, including login procedures, content management tools, and admin functions. Each session was interactive, allowing users to ask questions and try out the system in real time. As part of the workshop, we also created employee accounts and assisted them in inputting data submitted by various divisions. This hands-on experience not only helped users become comfortable with the system but also allowed us to identify and address minor adjustments to improve usability.

As we entered Week 11 of our OJT, our focused in preparation and presentation . This week was all about gearing up for the upcoming CMS workshop , where we would introduce and demonstrate the system we’ve been building to potential users and stakeholders. Our team collaborated closely to plan the program flow of the workshop. We outlined the key segments, including the system overview, feature demonstrations, and feedback sessions. The goal was to create a well-organized and engaging event that clearly communicated the CMS's purpose and functionality. Alongside the program, we also took charge of the visual materials needed for the workshop. We designed a tarpaulin that reflected the branding and professionalism of the project, ensuring it aligned with the overall look and feel of the CMS interface. From banners to presentation slides, we made sure every detail was polished and ready.

On The Job Training (Week 10)

10th Week This week started with a short meeting with Ma’am Llovido and Sir Cedric to check the progress of the CMS. I found a helpful plugin called Post Grid that lets us display articles dynamically on the article pages. It also works with Elementor, making the layout look better and easier to manage. We even added it to the homepage so that every time a new article is posted, the page updates automatically. Since there were no official articles yet, we used test articles to check if the plugin worked and it did. Later in the week, we received the final articles from the CSSP students and began uploading them. Each division got at least one article so we could test if everything displayed correctly on the homepage. We were also called by Sir Mike to visit the main campus where he shared the plugins he used for the CMS and gave us advice on setting up the scorecard. My teammate added another plugin called PostX to design pages that Elementor can’t edit easily, like the search pag...

On The Job Training (Week 9)

9th Week This week, we continued working on the CMS using WordPress. On Monday, we made changes to the Division Pages like RDMD, PKMD, IPMD, EMD, and the centers. Instead of making separate “About Us” pages for each sub-division, we just added their details to the main division pages. This made the site easier to use and more organized. Since Tuesday was a holiday, we had a break from our OJT and resumed work on Wednesday. On Wednesday, we worked from home because of a power outage in the office. We used Discord to talk to each other and Messenger to reach out to the CSSP students. We spent the day adding content to the CMS as we waited for the materials made by CSSP. On Friday, we added more content and updated the “Historical Background” section. Since all divisions had the same background, we placed it on the homepage. Later that day, we also helped move some shelves and papers around the office. After that, we were treated to some pizza as thanks.

8th Week This week, we focused on building web pages using WordPress. I used what I learned from watching tutorial videos to help me create the Hero Section and the header to match the official Bicol University website’s look. While WordPress is easy to use with plugins like Elementor, we still prefer coding the website from scratch because it offers more control. However, since we were only using the free version of WordPress and basic plugins, the design felt limited and the site looked simple. It didn’t feel as smooth or user-friendly, even for us. We kept making progress by adding more pages like the "Contact Us" and "FAQs," and worked on the layout of the division pages. We also started exploring how the roles in WordPress worklike who can post or edit content. A challenge we faced was how to make articles appear automatically in the right format when written. We were told not to use Elementor for creating articles, which made things harder since using basic W...

On The Job Training (Week 7)

Image
7th Week On the seventh week of our OJT, I added placeholder items to the footer to match the official Bicol University website. Some of our group members were called to help our mentor with tasks like preparing PowerPoint templates and were sent to the main campus to assist and monitor assigned work. The next day, we made a few more adjustments to the footer and were asked to help with a Zoom dry run for the upcoming In-House Review. Tasks were divided, such as helping the tech team, checking breakout rooms, and taking screenshots. After that, we started working on a new feature for the system a File Manager, which for now is only a preview and not yet linked to the database. By midweek, we prepared more for the In-House Review, we had another dry run for the Zoom event and finalized our assigned roles for the actual day. On the day of the review, we helped run the Zoom session smoothly by assisting with technical work, taking screenshots, and accepting participants. Some of us handle...

On The Job Training (Week 6)

6th Week This week, we continued working on the system and decided to stay in the conference room to talk more freely while working. I made some changes to the Login Forms and worked on coding the Forgot Password page. We also organized the system’s assets like images by sorting them based on the pages they belong to. This helps us find and update them more easily. The next day, we finished coding the Hero Section with a working carousel and added some items to the Navigation Menu. We also started using a project management app called Plane to track our tasks better by placing them in "Todo," "In Progress," and "Done" sections. For the rest of the week, we made a mix of small and big changes to the system. We polished design elements like dropdowns and the Hero Section and added functions in the backend for creating divisions and articles, although they aren’t shown on the website yet. We adjusted the Create Article modal and the Admin Sidebar by fixing ho...
